Spicer says Trump’s willing to speak to Mueller about Comey

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday that President Donald Trump meant he would talk to special counsel Robert Mueller, not necessarily appear before lawmakers, when he said last week he was willing to speak under oath about his interactions with fired FBI Director James Comey.

The president said Friday at a joint press conference with the president of Romania that he was "100 percent" willing to testify under oath about his version of events. Trump insisted that he never urged Comey to drop an investigation into ex-aide Michael Flynn, as Comey had told lawmakers a day earlier.

"I think he was actually specifically asked whether or not he would talk to Director Mueller, and he made it very clear what his position was," Spicer said, adding that Trump’s comments in the Rose Garden were "exactly what he said he believes."

Trump was first asked on Friday if he would speak under oath, to which he responded that he would. A reporter then followed up by asking if he would speak to Mueller, the former FBI director who is probing possible ties between Trump’s associates and Russia.

"I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you," Trump responded.
