Sen. Marco Rubio suggested on Sunday that President Donald Trump is anxious over the swelling controversies surrounding his administration’s possible ties to Russia, saying the president is “pretty fired up” about the investigations.
“One thing we’ve learned, I think, from the testimony of multiple people now is the president’s pretty fired up about this,” the Florida Republican said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“He, from every pronouncement we have seen, feels very strongly that he did nothing wrong, and he wants people to say that,” Rubio said.
Host Chuck Todd referenced a remark Trump made on Twitter last week, which seemed to confirm news accounts that he was under investigation. “I’m being investigated for firing the FBI director by the man who told me to fire the F.B.I. director. Witch hunt,” the president tweeted.
When pressed, Rubio, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, didn’t elaborate on the president’s comments.
“The FBI doesn’t sit around all day and read tweets. The FBI’s going to do their job, [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller’s going to do his job,” Rubio said.
“No one ever wants to be under investigation, even if you did nothing wrong, because it has negative connotations," the senator concluded. "That said, I think they should look at everything.”
