Trump: U.S., Japan agree on ‘menace of North Korea’

President Donald Trump on Saturday said he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were in agreement on the "problem and menace of North Korea."

"The prime minister is, I will say this, very very focused on what is going on with respect to North Korea," the president said during a meeting with Abe at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, according to a pool report.

Abe thanked Trump for organizing the trilateral summit with Japan, the U.S. and South Korea on Thursday and noted that the threat from Pyongyang "has become increasingly severe."

“As I look at the current situation, particularly the security environment in the Asia Pacific region, including North Korea, we believe that it has become increasingly severe and against such backdrop together with you Donald we would like to demonstrate the robust partnership as well as the bond between Japan and the United States on this occasion,” Abe said in brief remarks through a translator, according to a pool report.

Trump has pushed Japan, along with China and South Korea, to keep North Korea from becoming a nuclear threat to the region and the world.
