Vice President Mike Pence will join congressional GOP leaders later this month for a fundraising reception benefiting a newly formed, Pence-overseen political action committee.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy are slated to headline a June 25 fundraiser for Pence’s Great America Committee. The event is to take place in Washington, according to an invitation, and attendees are being asked to pony up $5,000 apiece.
Pence established Great America Committee earlier this year, a move that led to speculation that he was looking to advance his own profile – something his advisers denied. While vice presidents usually focus on raising money for presidential reelection bids or for their party generally, they typically do not launch their own fundraising vehicles. He is expected to use the PAC to reward candidates up for election in 2018.
With President Donald Trump mired in turmoil and absent from the campaign trail, Pence has emerged as a top party fundraiser and headliner, racing from one political event to the next. On Saturday he is slated to speak at the Mavericks Conference, an event that aims to promote the younger generation of Republican leaders.
